What I ate my first trimester …

Thanks again, everyone, for all of the awesome comments on Monday’s post!  I love hearing stories about some of your experiences with 1st trimester symptoms.  It’s always nice to know that you’re not alone! Winking smile

Today I’m going to talk about just some of the foods I ate during my first trimester.  My eats have been pretty atypical recently, so I thought you might get a kick out of hearing the kinds of foods I craved, week by week!

(Jenn, I can’t say I’ve enjoyed Healthy Halloween Treats recently … but I sure have enjoyed the not-so healthy ones! Winking smile)

Week 5:

I wanted strong flavors!

-Jalapeño Pop Chips

- Pickles

- Wasabi Peas

- Wasabi and Soy Sauce Almonds

(P.S. Those cravings quickly died out, leaving lots of leftover foods to go to waste, because Brandon wouldn’t eat them, either!)

Week 6:

- Salty foods (this was a trend throughout), such as potato chips.

- Bacon!

Week 7:

- This is around the time when fast food started becoming an issue, and I wanted it 1-2 times a week.

- Cheese popcorn from the school vending machine became a frequent afternoon snack.

- Popcorn made at home, topped with butter and cheese seasoning (and sometimes even hot sauce!)

Week 8:

- I ate cereal for breakfast every day that week.

- Kale chips made a comeback!

Week 9:

- I started wanting more red meat, so Brandon cooked me steak!

- Week 9 is also when I started eating plain potato chips drenched in apple cider vinegar.  I used to eat them as a kid, and wow, I had forgotten how delicious they are! (I know, it sounds gross.)

Week 10:

- This was the ‘bagel with cream cheese and bacon for breakfast every day’ week!

- I also bought sour gummi worms that week … probably for the first time in over 20 years. Winking smile

Week 11:

- I bought Airhead candy for Halloween to give to the Trick-or-Treaters … then Brandon and I proceeded to eat almost the whole bag. Who me?

- I ate an onion bagel with cream cheese every morning (no bacon, though).  I would usually have a glass of milk on the side.

- Five Guys and Chick-Fil-A.  They’re a bit of a problem (and when I say a “problem,” it’s still about once a week.  But that’s way more fast food than I used to eat!).

Week 12:

- Things started going (somewhat) back to normal.  But still loving my French fries. Winking smile

Week 13:

OK, so now we’re in Week 13.  Right now, here are some examples of my daily eats …

Breakfast:

001-1500

Frosted Mini Wheat cereal with 2% milk, and some defrosted strawberries thrown in.

Snacks:

- Protein bars

002-1500

- String cheese

- V8 juice (trying to get in some veggies!)

005-1500

- Bananas

-Grapes

009-1500

- Oreos

- Granola bars

- The list is endless …

Lunch:

007-1500

Simple noodle soup.  It hit the spot.

Paired with (randomly …):

008-1500

… a mini flatbread pizza.  Yum!

Dinner:

I haven’t cooked a lot of new recipes lately, but within the past week and a half, I have made three of our favorites!

Favorite #1:

Chicken Caesar sandwiches.

Favorite #2:

chick and dumplings

Slow-cooker chicken and dumplings.

Favorite #3:

our new fave chili

Our favorite chili!

If you have a slow cooker, you have to try some of these recipes.  They are so easy and (in my personal opinion) super delicious! Smile

    Looks like you did pretty well! I had such a hard time finding anything at all I wanted to eat during my first trimester! I never had any weird cravings, but as soon as I hit the second trimester I always wanted lemonade and barbecue…although not necessarily together. ;)

    I craved salty food too, Kristen! Especially during the first trimester. I ate a lot of the “cornichon” gherkin pickles.. i was addicted to the salty and vinegary taste.. and it made me feel better that each pickle was about 5 calories.. of course it didn’t justify the salt, but I definitely ate pretty healthy throughout the pregnancy. I did crave cheesy things too, but to my benefit the whole pregnancy i was grossed out by anything fried or too greasy!

    I love reading about your cravings! I am obsessed with salt and vinegar potato chips, but have never tried drizzling apple cider vinegar on chips, but I may need to give that a try! Best thing I ate this week was probably a big taco salad homemade by my momma when I visited her over the weekend.

    Food cravings are such a crazy thing! So funny how it changed from week to week like that, haha. I’m sure I’d be the same way. I loooove salt and vinegar chips too, but my husband HATES anything with vinegar.. even pickles! I hope for his sake I don’t crave those things when we’re pregnant haha!

    So weird that you mention the fast food – i *never* eat fast food, like maybe once a year? last week I wanted a Wendy’s chicken sandwich in the worst way after hearing a friend mention one – i gave it + ate one. with a whole bunch of fries. =) i can’t deny that it was delicious!

    When my best friend was pregnant she also wanted pickles in her 1st trimester. And there were several lunches where all we ate were pickles, chips and cheese. lol.

    It’s so funny, but I had a lot of the same cravings! Definitely wanted salty carbs, and bagels (I never crave bagels unless I’m pregnant!) I would swoon over a toasted plain bagel with cream cheese and would google where the nearest Einstein Bagels were :) I also craved red meat, I think because my iron stores got a little low.

    The weather hasn’t cooled down at all in Hawaii, but I’m still embracing all things pumpkin and apple in celebration of fall :)

    I liked Popsicles and hot chocolate! But I had horrible morning sickness and couldn’t eat much of anything until about 4 months! I couldn’t stomach chicken. The weird thing is that Emma dislikes chicken baby food.

    I’ve never been pregnant, but one of my roommates in college got me into eating macaroni and cheese with ketchup! Sounds gross, but it’s actually really good!

    Sometimes I have strange food cravings, and I don’t know even know why (because I’m not pregnant). I blame it on hormones…or maybe I’m just lacking a certain nutrient. Today, it was Laughing Cow Cheese and tortilla chips. I guess it doesn’t sound that strange, now that I type it out..

    I have a feeling that when Im pregnant I am going to crave foods I never eat, like fried chicken or something lol. I never crave foods like that now, but I can totally see my baby being a junk food baby, simply because of my husband lol

      I wouldn’t say I’m craving healthier foods … but I am able to eat healthier foods now than I was at the beginning. At the beginning, I couldn’t even look at a fruit or a vegetable!
