The Race to Restore

Another happy Monday, friends! Smile

This weekend was a particularly fun one.  Although I was sad that my husband was out of town (he was visiting his family in Ohio), I kept myself busy with several different activities.

And the best activity of the weekend?

006-1500

Waking up at 5am on a Saturday to go run, of course! Winking smile

When my friend Emily (to my left in the above picture) told me about the Race to Restore 5k, I knew that I wanted to get involved.  I love participating in anything active, especially when it involves a good cause.

The Race to Restore raised money for Wellspring Living, an organization that helps survivors of childhood sexual abuse and sex trafficking find healing of the body, mind, and spirit.  You can find out more about their incredible work (and ways to donate, if you feel so led), at their website.

So on Saturday morning, myself and about 12 other friends from church got up bright and early for the event.

005-1500

And despite the early wake-up call, everyone was (clearly) raring to go!

After a few essential stretches …

007-1500

… it was time for the race to begin!

009-1500

I was a little nervous about this race because I haven’t been running consistently in the past several months (after that disaster of a half-marathon in April, I decided I needed a break!).

But despite my lack of training, I was able to maintain just above a 10 minute/mile pace, for a finishing time of approximately 32 minutes. Thumbs up

It was an absolutely gorgeous day, with temperatures in the upper 60’s and sunny skies.  The course was primarily run on golf cart paths around a lake, and the scenery made the time go by quickly!

010-1500

My friend Kathi (in the green shorts) stayed with me throughout the run, even when I had to take a couple of quick walk breaks.  Such a good friend!

011-1500

After finishing the race, it was fun getting to cheer on my PCC friends!

012-1500013-1500

I think we were pretty much the coolest running team ever. Winking smile

015-1500

After the race, we all headed over to J. Christopher’s for breakfast.

017-1500

I surprised myself by ordered something I’ve never ordered at a restaurant before … biscuits and gravy!  They came with a side of cheesy scrambled eggs and potatoes.

I could only eat about half of the biscuits and eggs, but I killed those potatoes.  So good!

018-1500

Good friends, a good workout, a great meal, and an even greater cause.  Doesn’t get much better than that! Smile

Question for ya …

What did you do this weekend?

Favorite food to order when you go out to breakfast?

Tell me about the last race you ran.  Or tell me about one you’re signed up for!

I absolutely love biscuits and gravy, but like you, I rarely order them. I am usuall more of an omelet and pancake kind of girl. I am glad you had such a fun weekend even though your hubby was out of town!

Looks like you had a fab weekend! I tend to order savory rather than sweet things when I go out to breakfast, so your biscuits + gravy look great! I also love bacon, eggs, sausage, crepes, quiche – really anything that’s savory + carby. =)

Great job on your race! I have a hard time even thinking about running at the moment. ;) I’m hoping to get into some jogging in the next few weeks though. When I go out for breakfast, I usually get pancakes if I’m feeling something sweeter or an omelet if I’m wanting something more savory. I loooove breakfast potatoes!

Eggs benedict is one of my favorite breakfasts to order out, but a lot of times I’ll pick the most unique thing on the menu and go with that. :)

My first half marathon is four weeks from this Saturday! YAY!!!!! I also have a 10k the weekend after the half. I’m excited!

But Sarah, running a race is sooo fun! Especially if you do it with a friend. It’s not about how fast you go or who beats you or comes behind you … it’s just a super fun experience! You have to sign up for one. I won’t take no for an answer! ;)
