A Date Night in the Ohio Wine Country

Posted on by notsodomesticated Posted in Food, Married Life, Travel | 23 Comments

Well, it’s Monday again.

But the good news?  It’s a short week … hurray!  Open-mouthed smile

This past Saturday was the first in many many weeks that we didn’t wake up and run.  I think we were both a little lost for what to do with ourselves!

We ended up having a lazy morning, which included lots of Sports Center (Brandon) and blogging (Kristen).  Eventually, we got off of our lazy behinds and decorated our Christmas tree!

035

However, considering the fact that it’s only about 4 feet, it took us all of 15 minutes to decorate. Winking smile  Does it remind anyone else of another “famous” Christmas tree?

peanuts christmas

But we love it anyway. Smile with tongue out

Saturday night, Brandon took me out on the town!  He had planned an entire date night for us.

We started our evening doing a wine tasting at “The Winery at Versailles.”

Who knew that Ohio had wineries??  I sure didn’t!

The winery was so cute.  It had a very homey feel, and it was all decorated for Christmas.

016

We sat upstairs at our own private table.  It was very romantic. Winking smile

015

You get to choose 5 different wines that you want to sample, and they have a whole page with descriptions to help you decided.

024

I ended up choosing all sweeter wines (no big shock for those who know about my sweet tooth Angel).

The really neat part was that they also had wines made from different fruits, including blackberries …

019

… blueberries …

018

… and apples!

020

I think my personal favorite was the sparkling blueberry.

023

It would be a great substitute for champagne on New Years Eve! Thumbs up

I also loved the “Schokoladenkirschwein.”  It was the bright pink wine to the far right.  The description called it a “chocolate cherry wine,” and the description was spot on!  Chocolate wine?  Count me in! Winking smile

021

We had a great time sampling the various wines and exploring the winery.  Before we knew it, it was time to head to dinner!

When we got to “The Inn at Versailles,” we were greeted by a very attractive older gentleman.

027

He wasn’t very friendly, though … Thinking smile

We ate at the Inn’s restaurant, Michael Anthony’s.

028

The menu had plenty of fancy-sounding dishes, but I zeroed in on exactly what I wanted.

029

Chicken and waffles, at a fancy restaurant?  Yes, please!! Open-mouthed smile

030

The waffles alone weren’t that amazing, but pairing the sweetness of the waffle with the saltiness of the chicken was the perfect combination.

This meal also brought back memories from our Chicago trip, where I first experienced chicken and waffles.

018

Of course this time, I was able to eat them in a slightly more civilized manner …

024

… like, sitting down, for instance. Winking smile

Normally we don’t order dessert when we go out to eat, but I convinced Brandon to split one with me.

(And by “split one,” I mean let him eat two bites and I eat the rest.  No, really.)

032

We ended up choosing the “Chocolate Decadence.”

Here’s the description from the website:

“Callebaut Belgian dark and milk chocolate flourless tart garnished with white and dark chocolate Ganache and raspberry-mango puree.”

I don’t know what half of that means, but it was delicious.

With full bellies, we headed home.  We then ended up falling asleep on the couch watching football.

This sounds normal, but what I didn’t mention was that it was only 9:00.

Poor Brandon … he’s turning into a senior-citizen like his wife. Winking smile

Question for ya …

What did you do this weekend?

Have you ever tried a wine that wasn’t made of grapes??

Have you started decorating for Christmas yet?
