Just a little warning…if this post only makes half sense, that’s because I’m only half awake.
Between the 5:30 am wake up call, the 7 mile run, spending the day in the sun, and a full belly… I am ready for a nap!!
But it’s been a really great day. Brandon and I got cleaned up after our run and drove down to Siesta Key Beach (named the “Best Beach in America” for 2011 by Dr. Beach!) for a relaxing day by the water.
I love this beach. It has fine white sand that is super soft and almost looks like snow. And the water is always blue and warm (unless you come in December
).
We enjoyed most of the late morning reading, swimming in the ocean and people watching (it was packed!).
Today was a cool day to visit because the beach was hosting the state’s annual lifeguard contest… yesterday they had all of the “pro” lifeguards, and today they had the “junior” lifeguards.
I didn’t quite get the point of the particular event that we watched. They all had to lay on their bellies facing away from where a guy was putting sticks in the ground.
Then they all had to run and see who could grab a stick first. There were 11 kids and only 9 sticks.
It reminded me a bit of musical chairs… but I kept that thought to myself.
After a few hours, we were both starving, so we packed up our gear and headed in to “Siesta Key Village.” It’s a neat little area near the beach that has lots of little shops and restaurants.
Since Brandon had never been to Daiquiri Deck before, I knew that’s where we needed to go.
Daiquiri Deck is an outdoor restaurant and bar that serves tasty food and frozen drinks. It’s the perfect place to go after a day at the beach, because they don’t judge you for being sweaty and sandy.
We both got big glasses of water and our choice of frozen drinks to cool us off while we waited for our meals.
They had live music playing across the street and golf on the TV, so Brandon was a happy camper.
I ended up choosing a crabcake sandwich on a Kaiser roll with Caribbean dressing.
It was delicious and tasted like I was on vacation.
Now we’re home and I’m very full and very sleepy. Tonight we’re going out to dinner with my mom, and I can’t even imagine eating again. But give me a few hours, and I’m sure my feelings will change.
Question for ya…
Where is your favorite beach?
