Happy Saturday, everyone!  Since Brandon and I are going to be out of town today (we’re meeting some friends at the Kentucky State Fair!! Smile), I thought it would be the perfect day for a guest post!

Lindsay from “In Sweetness and In Health” is going to share an awesome workout routine with you.  I’m not the world’s best at coming up with unique or challenging routines, but Lindsay frequently has new, cool ideas on her blog!!

So I hope you enjoy … and while you’re at it, go check out her blog!! Smile

Hi to all of Kristen’s readers!! My name is Lindsay and I blog over at In Sweetness and In Health. I was really excited when Kristen asked me to write a guest post for her :) . I love to read all of her posts and her blog is one of my favs!

(my bf Chris and I)

Kristen asked me to to write a post on working out and I thought I would talk about exercises you can do for your “posterior chain”.

What is your posterior chain? Up until recently I hadn’t heard that term either, but my boyfriend (he’s a personal trainer) informed me that it consists of your upper and lower back muscles, glutes, and hamstrings. These muscles are extremely important for good posture, prevention of common injuries- especially low back ones, and symmetry of muscle strength. Many people neglect these muscles when working out and tend to focus on muscles like their chest, biceps, tricpes, abs, and quads. This can cause shoulders that round forward and essentially a “hunch-back” look. Um, no thank you.

So I thought that I would share some good posterior chain exercises with you guys!

Upper Back Exercises

Reverse Fly

Seated Cable Rows

Middle Back Exercises

Assisted Pull-ups or Regular Pull-ups

Lat Pulldowns

Lower Back Exercises

Cobras on Stability Ball

Supermans

Glutes and Hamstrings

Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts (stiff-leg)

Stability Ball Hamstring Curls

I hope you guys found this post informative! And if you already incorporate some of these exercises into your workout routine, good for you! Special thanks to Kristen for letting me take over her blog :) . Feel free to stop by and visit my blog sometime! I’d love to hear from you!

Question for ya …

Do you already do any of these exercises?  Before this post, did you even know what the “posterior chain” was??

Kristen here … I didn’t have a clue what that was, but I am proud to say that I already incorporate many of those exercises into my normal routine!  But I’ve never done the “Single Leg Romanian Deadlifts” … those things look intense!! Smile
