One thing I like about living in Ohio is that there always a fair, festival, or other local event (always involving food!) to attend.
For example, last summer, Brandon and I attended the Lima “Square Fair” and the Wapak “Moon Festival.”
We also met up with friends at the Kentucky State Fair.
In the fall, we picked pumpkins and drank cider at a fall festival in Dayton.
Our winter was a little busy with wedding planning and such … but this summer, we have attended more food-related events than I ever thought possible!
This weekend, we’ve been busy attending more fairs and festivals.
Friday night was “Bremen-Fest” … a festival in the tiny town of New Bremen.
We met up with a bunch of Brandon’s co-workers and had a great time talking, listening to music, and (of course) eating.
(I
pulled-pork sandwiches.)
I really wanted ice cream, but I was sad to discover that they didn’t have any!! Of course, they did have plenty of these …
… but my stomach wasn’t up for another fried Twinkie quite yet. ![]()
Fortunately, our friends Ali and Brandon were generous enough to share some of their funnel cake with us.
One thing I found interesting about “Bremen-Fest” was this:
Mud volleyball.
That’s right. People actually choose to get soaked in mud while competing in a volleyball tournament. And evidently, there was a waiting list to get on the mud-volleyball teams!
I wish we could have been around to see this event take place!! But sadly, the tournament was on Saturday, so we missed it.
Has anyone ever been a part of an event like this?? I’m completely fascinated.
After a few more pictures …
… it was time to hit the road. We were having a great time, but we knew that we had to get up super-early to start driving to Kentucky for the STATE FAIR!! ![]()
I’ll be talking about the Kentucky State Fair tomorrow. It was another fun time with lots of food, friends, and farm animals. ![]()
Question for ya …
Have you ever seen (or participated in) a mud volleyball game??
What have you been up to this weekend?
