Good morning, friends!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

On Saturday, Brandon and I decided to brave the mall as a family for the first time.  We left immediately after one of Addie’s feedings, in order to hopefully give us a couple of hours before she needed to be fed again.  The good news is, we were both able to find some things we wanted at Von Maur.  But then we pushed our luck and tried to shop in some other stores.  Addie often fights sleep when we’re out anywhere, so she wasn’t sleeping and quickly got cranky.

Oh well.  “A” for effort, right? Winking smile

For those who are interested in this kind of thing, I thought I’d share what a typical day looks like for us right now.  Like I mentioned before, we’re using the schedule from the “Moms on Call” book.  The schedule changes based on the baby’s age, and there’s some flexibility in the schedule.  But here’s a “normal” day for us right now:

Between 6-7 am: Addie wakes up and is fed and burped.

7ish-9 am: She usually goes back to sleep, but sometimes gets placed in her swing while mom gets ready for the day.

9:00 am: Addie is fed and burped.

9:30 am: Addie and mommy go for a walk around the neighborhood.

10ish: Addie gets swaddled back up and goes down for a nap.

12:00 pm: Addie is fed and burped.

12:30 pm: She does tummy time and we read a couple of books.

1:00 pm: Addie gets swaddled back up and goes down for another nap.

3:00 pm: Addie is fed and burped.

3:30 pm: I may put her in her vibrating chair or swing and just talk to her for a while.  Or more tummy time.

4:00 pm: Addie gets swaddled back up and goes down for another nap.

5:30 pm: Addie is fed and burped.

6:00 pm: Addie goes for another walk (this time with mommy and daddy).

6:30 pm-8pm: She may or may not sleep well during this time.  If she doesn’t, we’ll hold her or put her in her swing to doze.

8ish: Bath time! (This is probably our favorite time of the day.  Brandon and I both try to participate, and she loves her baths!)

8:30 pm: Last feeding of the night!

9:00 pm: Addie is swaddled and put to bed.

3:00-3:30 am: Usually around this time, Addie wakes up for a feeding.  She’s fed, burped, and put back to sleep.

4:00 am – 6 or 7 am: Addie sleeps some more.

And that’s our normal day!

If I have to go anywhere with her (like the store, or to meet a friend), I try to do it right after a feeding, when she’s most content.

As you can see, she still sleeps a lot right now!

During her naps, I do a variety of things … laundry, cleaning, cooking, blogging, Bible study, checking emails, paying bills, making grocery lists … etc. etc.

When Addie wakes up from her naps, she is at her CUTEST.  She does these big stretches that I think are just adorable!

(If you’re curious, the blanket she’s laying on is her swaddle blanket.  I had just unwrapped her from it!)

Hope at least one person finds that interesting and/or useful.  Personally, I’ve been asking my friends with children lots of questions about their schedules recently, so I figured if it’s a subject that’s of interest to me, it may interest some of you!

I followed the baby wise book schedule which seems to be similar to yours. They eat every 3 hours, followed by some wake time then nap. Though our wake time is less involved than yours right now since we are still only 3 weeks old. They seem to take to the schedule well though and luckily so far will nap Just about anywhere so ill usually take them out during nap time.
It’s quite the adventure huh? :)

You’re already taking them out places?? Girl, you are a better woman than I. I can’t even imagine, having two of them and them being so young! I am in awe! ;)

I love the video! Hunter loooves stretching too. It’s so cute!

Our schedule is similar… We are following the Baby Wise schedule, and it’s been working great for us! Hunter had pretty much the same schedule as Addie at 6 weeks, and just this week (at 9 weeks), he’s been sleeping 8-9 hours at night! Yay! :)

Yay for a good night’s sleep! Unfortunately, after writing this post yesterday, Addie didn’t have the best night sleeping last night. I think she’s going through a growth spurt. Hopefully tonight is better! :)

      • Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries

I think an occasional not-so-good night of sleep is normal. We had one Saturday night. As long as most of the time it’s good, I’m happy!

You’re right. I just know that I function SO much better with sleep … so I’m having unrealistic expectations!!!

That video of Addie is so precious! What a beautiful little girl!

Really helpful to see your schedule. I’ve been wondering what a typical day will turn into shortly :)

Looks like you 3 are doing well! All the best,

    • notsodomesticated

The first couple of weeks are just a free for all (at least, they were for us). And some people choose to keep that “free, no schedule” thing going. But for my own sanity, I needed to follow some type of schedule. It’s helped us a lot!

Can’t wait to find out what y’all are having! It’s getting so close!

  5. Jana @ Happy Wife Healthy Life

This weekend I had a date night, attended a grad party and hosted a girl’s night!

I really like the schedule, it makes me think I need to stick to one myself rather than varying it. We had some weight gain issues so we’re still having to feed every 2.5 hours and can’t let her sleep too long at night but once we get the go-ahead to move to 3 hours during the day, I can’t wait to implement a more consistent schedule like your own. We will be following the Babywise books recommendation of 3 hours (Sleep, Feed, Waketime – repeat!).

Our Addison loves to do the big stretches too, I love it!

Yes for me, a schedule was essential. I know some people are against scheduling newborns and I completely understand their point of view, but it was what I needed. And a sane mom = a happy baby haha!

  8. Amy@ahealthyandhappyheart

oh my that video is too cute to handle! It makes me want another baby soon! Glad you guys are on a good schedule!

  11. Amber @ Slim Pickin's Kitchen

I’m definitely planning on putting Owen on a schedule as soon as possible after he’s born. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do?!? Ugh, it seems like the “rules” are always changing! Is it just me too, or is Addie super tall?!? She seems like such a tall/long, absolutely adorable 6 week old. Y’all made a purty baby girl ;)

Everyone says she seems long. She’s around the 50th percentile for length, so I guess she’s not THAT long. But I agree that she looks that way!!

And yes, the rules are always changing. Just do what’s best for YOUR family!

  12. Avery @ YoungAspirations

She is too stinkin’ cute!! Funny how babies are cute doing the most simple things. I wonder at what age does stretching stop being cute? Haha :) I might be crazy but I feel like she looks like you so much already! Can’t to see how she grows! Thanks for sharing your schedule. Even without kids I find those things interesting since I know I’ll need to know them one day!

I’ve heard she looks like me, but then sometimes she also looks like Brandon. :) It’s so hard to tell when they’re so little haha!

I just emailed you!!! Thanks, I am happy I won!

  14. nicole

We are doing the Moms on Call also! LOVE it! I love that they had exact times! My daughter just turned 5 weeks today and last night she finally slept 6 hours! wooooo! So happy! I agree with having a schedule. I can plan things! Do you have her in her crib? We do..I am just curious if you have her nap in there every time? Let me know! Thanks!

    • nicole

Just curious…do you have her in NB diapers or size 1?

      • notsodomesticated

Hey Nicole! We have her in NB size diapers. She’s not even 9 lbs yet. She’s a little thing.

Yes, we have her in her crib. And she naps in there ALMOST every time. Sometimes we aren’t home during nap time, so I try to have her sleep in her car seat (which rarely works). And if she’s really not wanting to go down for a nap, I sometimes put her in her swing and she’ll fall asleep in there. But the majority of naps are in the crib! :)
