Fun Friday #5

1. This video about parenting is hilarious.  It’s a little crass, but super funny.  If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to watch it ASAP.

And really, isn’t anyone with a British accent just a little bit more entertaining?  I think so.

2. So let’s talk about coffee.

Prior to getting pregnant, I had coffee every single day.  Once we started thinking about having a baby, I quit.  And I had to go through the super fun process of caffeine withdrawal.  So after that experience, I was determined not to get addicted again.

But I just really really like coffee.  Especially now that the temperature is getting cooler.  So here’s my theory: if I have it every other day, I won’t get addicted.

Thoughts?  Do you think this is a good strategy?  Or should I just give in to temptation and become a “cup a day” girl again?

P.S. It’s especially difficult to avoid temptation now that my husband is suddenly a coffee drinker.  He’s barely touched it his whole life until the last few months.  Now he wants it almost daily!

3. We’re going to Florida for a few days next week to see our family.  I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone.  But want to take a guess what I’m not looking forward to?

Packing. Thumbs down

Packing was never a challenge until a child came into the picture.  Suddenly it has turned into a dreaded task.

Just a small sampling of the things I need to remember: Diapers, formula, baby food, spoons/bowls, sippy cup, monitor, sound machine, toys, books, onesies, PJ’s, outfits, hats, socks, bottles, burp clothes, bibs, wipes …

… annnd I’m exhausted.

4. I need my sister-in-law’s expert advice on something: into vs. in to.  Am I using it correctly?!

Ex: Or should I just give in to temptation and become a “cup a day” girl again?

(Tell me I’m not the only one who has forgotten half of what I learned in school!)

5. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I love “Gilmore Girls.”

I don’t know why, but it is the one show that never gets old to me.  I’ve probably watched every episode close to 10 times, and yet I still find it hilarious.  Every day I tape the reruns on the Family Channel, and (if Addie’s nap permits) I watch them in the afternoon.  It’s a small thing that gives me (an embarrassing amount of) pleasure.

6. Addie is continuing to improve her crawling skills.  However, she is now doing something else that’s making me incredibly nervous.  She does this “downward facing dog” thing, then tries to bring her torso up, so that she’s almost in a standing position.  Needless to say, she’s starting to accumulate a few bumps and bruises. Eye rolling smile

001-2000

But she’s still as adorable as ever. Winking smile

Question for ya …

What TV show or movie can you watch over and over again?

Are you a coffee addict?

Want to pack for me?

I’ll pay you in hugs. Smile

My baby does the same thing! He will also get into push-up position and just hold it for minutes! It’s hilarious! Luckily he hasn’t fallen!

      Haha silly babies!

Super funny video! I love how he describes couples without kids as arrogant…I was laughing out loud!
I love hot beverages in the fall and winter also. My drink of choice is hot chocolate, but in an effort to be a bit healthier, I’ve forced myself to enjoy green tea, too:)

Haha I know … I love how he says “Oh wouldn’t it just be lovely to have children? You’d make such a great mum.” Because it’s so true! We’ve all said that to our significant others at some point! ;)

I am a tea drinker! I LOVE tea! I have about 2 HUGE cups a day!

    • notsodomesticated

My mom is a huge tea drinker, too. I try but I just don’t love it!

  4. Kathy

I absolutely love coffee. I used to only drink 1 cup (even when we were trying and I was pregnant) but now I drink about 3 a day. What can I say, the caffeine helps! So I think you should have a cup now and then if you want. I agree that packing is overwhelming but I started a list a week or 2 ahead of time so that I could add something every time I thought about it. It helped it feel more manageable. And I’m obviously not your SIL but you did use ‘into’ and ‘in to’ correctly in the sentences above.

      Whoo hoo! Thanks, Kathy!

Coffee is a big addiction. I cannot quit it. I did drink it during pregnancy (I almost didn’t put “it” in there and the sentence would have a way different meaning…) and quit when he was born for about 8 ish weeks [I was on other pain meds so I didn't experience the withdrawal], but then with work I started doing one cup a day. On the radio last week, it was apparently addictions week, which I always feel those are the heavy duty drugs/alcohol but they had mentioned coffee, and I was like “darn, it is a very addictive substance”

    • notsodomesticated

I know that lots of people drink it during pregnancy and it’s totally fine. I just went ahead and quit b/c I wanted to stop the addiction. But now I think I may be addicted again haha. I had it this afternoon and I was planning on not having it today! ;)

  6. Naomi

I am not pregnant and do not plan to be in the near future, but I also don’t want to be addicted to coffee! Grad school makes it hard haha. I have a cup nearly every day though. Like you, I just really like it! My husband thinks I’m crazy haha

    • notsodomesticated

Oh yes … grad school requires caffeine! ;)

My thoughts on coffee? A couple cups per day aren’t bad for you. In fact, there’s some health benefits from it, so I enjoy every sip of my 1-2 cups every day. I think if you’re drinking coffee ALL day, every day, then it’s a problem. Maybe even drink half-caf if you’re concerned about getting addicted to the caffeine?

I feel ya on the packing thing… Ugh. No fun, but I just kept telling myself that there are stores around if I forget something! Lists were also my lifesaver!

I know it isn’t bad for you … but I just didn’t want to feel like I HAD to have it every day, you know? But I think it may be too late … I think I’m hooked again!! ;)

  8. Loretta

Just think when you get ALL that stuff you listed packed, Brandon will be ready to go! : ) Then all you have to pack is for you and Addie!! (Hope you and “B” are laughing!!)

  9. Monica

    Try Chai!
As for a TV show…Castle and Sex and the City

    • notsodomesticated

Ooh good call! I love chai!

  10. Emily

It’s a funny video, but I find it kind of insensitive to say couples without children are arrogant. Some people would love to have children but are unable to for whatever reason, and some people simply choose not to have children. That’s their life and their decision and no one should be made to feel worse for their own situation. It makes the claim that people without children have no stress or worry in their lives, which is simply not true.

  11. Theresa

I think you are using “into” and “in to” correctly. And I too LOOOOVE Gilmore Girls! I actually have all 7 seasons on DVD and a couple times a year I cycle through them all!!

Oh, and I hear you on packing. When we went to Ohio in July it was CRAZY, and they weren’t even eating solid foods or cared about toys much at the time!!

  12. Jan

I can and have watched the Gilmore Girls over and over again! My mum swears that it is one of the best things to watch if you’re feeling stressed/ill/blue! I also want Lauren Graham to be my celeb BFF! Lol Have you read her book?

Ha, I involuntarily gave up coffee while pregnant. How, you ask? Well, I completely lost my tatse for it. I usued to be a 1-3 cup of coffee a fay girl, and now can and have gone MONTHS without it. Weird. I still wonder if the craving will return after I have the baby… we shall see. If so, I think I’ll at least try to start off slow, like you said. I think every othre day isn’t too bad at all. :)
