So I just checked my email, and both my husband and one of my best friends had sent me the same article this morning. Coincidence? Or a wake-up call? Help me decide…
Click the link below to read the article, from Yahoo!
Top 10 Scariest Food Additives
The article talks about some of the additives in our foods and why we should be worried about them.
The writer then gives examples of specific products that have the additives in them.
Some of the examples that I, personally, consume (at least one a semi-regular basis) include:
- La Choy soy sauce
- Orbit gum
- Skinny Cow Ice Cream sandwiches (I LOVE these things!)
- Nature’s Own bread
Here’s my thing. If we worry about every possible thing that could be linked to cancer or some other disease, we would drive ourselves crazy. Unless you’re living in a bubble, you are going to be susceptible to some possible dangers.
But on the flip side of the coin, of course, I want to keep myself (and my family) healthy and safe. So if avoiding certain foods are going to keep me healthy, then (logically-speaking) I would want to avoid them. But how cautious is too cautious?
I would love to hear some other thoughts and opinions on this topic.
Does this article make you re-think any of your food choices? What changes (if any) in your diet or lifestyle have you made based on articles similar to this one?

After watching a video blog of one of my friend’s on Facebook, I completely stopped eating and buying healthy choice, smart ones and lean cruisine meals. Even though they are quick, easy and convenient doesn’t make them good for you, and after reading all the extra ingredients of junk in them, I thought what am I really putting in my body… So now just trying to limit the processed food I eat. Yes, I still some eat some processed things I like and probably always will, because you’re right we would go crazy worrying ourselves over is this food gonna lead to cancer and what not. Being cautious is good, I think sometimes it can be taken to an extreme….
Very good way of explaining it!! I bring those TV dinners in for lunch when I’m working. :/ I know I shouldn’t, but turkey sandwiches every day get old! I need to come up with some new ideas!
AMEN to what you said girl. I totally agree that if we are paranoid about everything, we simply will NOT enjoy our lives!! I mean seriously, I can’t go a week without ice cream. chocolate or some sort of decadent dessert. People who go months without that stuff amaze me. I mean to each his own, but I REFUSE to do that to myself!! Maybe its from all those years of depriving myself, but I just love food to much to cut it out completely. Yes, I dont think its ok to eat immense amounts of junk food everyday, but I’m down to have a splurge on the weekend every once in a while.Shoot I dont even follow the Dirty Dozen rule with produce. I buy what I can and wash the rest. And I’ve got a feeling that I’ll make it to a decent age
I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels that way! Yes, I want to eat foods that are good for my body. But I also want to enjoy life without worrying about every little thing that goes in to my mouth! I just had an Eggo waffle with caramel syrup and Cool Whip for dessert… I’m sure there weren’t any additives in that stuff, right?
I read that article too! I think it’s interesting, and I understand everything they say, but if you only eat/consume those things in moderation then I’m not to worried about it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I think “moderation” is key for all areas of our lives!!
