Happy New Year, everyone!
Today I wanted to give a quick recap of our holiday in Florida.
We started our trip in Sarasota. We spent several days enjoying quality time with my mom and my favorite puppy, Sophie.
She’s smiling on the inside, folks.
I had two food requests for my mom while we were visiting:
Homemade cinnamon rolls (I need to get that recipe from my mom!) …
… and my great-grandmother’s famous noodles. Both did not disappoint.
We got some great gifts from my mom, including an iPad (we’re finally in the 21st century!!) and …
… adorable baby books, filled with pictures of me and Brandon growing up. Now we can share our memories with Addie!
While in Sarasota, we also got to spend some quality time with Brandon’s brother and his family.
We spent Christmas Eve morning at their house, enjoying a delicious brunch and opening gifts.
My SIL, Christi, made a cinnamon roll cake (top left in the picture) that was absolutely ah-mazing. She was kind enough to share the recipe, so you better believe I’ll be making it again soon!
She also made a tasty egg and sausage casserole and mini cherry cheesecakes. Yum!
After our meal, we opened gifts.
I love that these girls were more excited about a pink Chinese umbrella than any fancy technology toys. My kind of ladies.
My favorite gift of the day:
That would be a bathing suit for little Addie.
Is that not the cutest thing ever?!
On Christmas Day, Brandon and I rented a car and headed to Marco Island.
(Old picture … as I’m sure you can tell from the much smaller waistline!)
We love Marco Island. We would basically wake up early every morning, work out, and then proceed to sit by the pool for the entire day and do nothing.
Every day around 4 or so, we would manage to get our lazy behinds up to our room, shower, and head to dinner.
We’d be back in the room in time for Jeopardy (that would be 7:30), and we’d be asleep by 9:00.
We’re real party animals.
Since you know how much I love my food, let’s do a quick recap on some of our vacation eats!
Night #1: Fish Tacos at one of the Marriott’s restaurants.
Personally, I wasn’t a fan of the corn tortillas (I prefer flour). But I was a fan of the huge fish portions and the side of guacamole. Yum!
Night #2: Pizza Caprese at Davinci’s.
This pizza reminded me of some of the pizza we had in Italy this summer. It was so good!
Night #3: Sushi at Sushi-Thai Too in Naples.
Loved this sushi restaurant. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area!
Night #4: Flatbreads at Philly Grille.
Brandon chose the bacon macaroni & cheese flatbread …
… while I chose the “Uptown” flatbread, which had Brie cheese, onion jam, thinly sliced Granny Smith apples, and roasted garlic.
Both were heavenly. I only wish that we had discovered this restaurant sooner, so that I could have tried more of their tasty flatbreads and sandwiches!
Night #5: Fish and Chips at The Bar & Bistro at Marek’s.
I think this was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The fish was piping hot and flavorful, and the batter was light and crispy. I enjoyed every bite!
All in all, it was a very successful vacation.
Not only did Brandon and I have a great week ….
… but I think Addie had plenty of fun, too.
At least, I know she enjoyed the eats.
Question for ya …
What did you do for New Year’s Eve?
What was the best thing you ate over the holidays?
What is your idea of the perfect vacation?
Any fun gifts you got for Christmas?
