The Flat Stanley Project

Happy Friday, my friends! Smile

In Monday’s post, I shared a few pictures that had a strange little man in them.  Since I have such smart readers, many of you knew right away that the guy showing up in my pictures was the one and only (or one in a million … whatever) Flat Stanley!

If you don’t know anything about Flat Stanley, you can learn more about him by clicking on this link.  My friend’s daughter, Sophie, was participating in the Flat Stanley project and they wanted to send Flat Stanley to someone living in another state (they live in Ohio).  So I became the lucky recipient of Sophie’s Flat Stanley!

Here’s a summary of the letter that came with Flat Stanley:

“Dear Kristin (no one can ever spell my name properly Smile with tongue out),

My class is reading the book, Flat Stanley.  The story is about a boy who becomes flat and has many adventures.  I would like you to help me out with a class project.  I made a Flat Stanley for you to take on an adventure, or many adventures.  You may take him anywhere!  He can go to work with you, shopping, to visit a friend, out to eat with you or just on a walk around the neighborhood.  When he is done, I would like you to write a letter or journal about his experiences.  Our class LOVES pictures too, so if you want to take pictures of Stanley out and about during his time with you that would be wonderful; but you don’t have to.  At school we are going to map out where Stanley has gone and hang our pictures and letter on a Bulletin Board in the hallway for others to enjoy.  Thanks for helping me out with this project.”

Cute, right?  So how could I resist?

I really wanted to take Flat Stanley to some unique, fun locations.  However, that just didn’t happen.  I’ve been pretty busy with work, so I wasn’t able to be as creative as I wanted to be.  But I hope Sophie and the rest of her class still enjoy hearing about Flat Stanley’s experience in Atlanta!

So here’s my letter back to the school, with the corresponding pictures below. Smile

Hello to Mrs. T’s class!

My name is Kristen. I had the pleasure of receiving Sophie’s Flat Stanley in the mail! I live in Atlanta, Georgia, so Flat Stanley had quite a long journey to come see me!

While Flat Stanley was in Atlanta, he had a great time, but he also worked hard, too! I am a school psychologist, so I work with kids like all of you. Flat Stanley came with me to school one day to help me work with kids (1). I think he liked being there, because it reminded him of being at school with all of you! On another day, I took Flat Stanley to my other job at Lifetime Fitness (2). Flat Stanley enjoyed exercising on the treadmills and running around with the children in the Child Center! He loves staying active … it’s what keeps him so fit and trim!

Don’t worry, Flat Stanley also had plenty of fun while he was in Atlanta! My husband and I took him to the park one day to watch kids play in the fountain (3). He loved watching all of the kids splash around in the water!

Flat Stanley sure loves to eat! We took him to a fun restaurant called Flip Burger (4,5). He ate onion rings and milkshakes with the rest of us! On another day, we let him share some frozen yogurt with us … he has a sweet tooth just like me (6)!

Every Sunday while Flat Stanley was in Atlanta, he came to church with us. We attend a church called Passion City Church, and Flat Stanley loved hearing our pastor, Louie Giglio, speak! He also loved helping serve at church, because we have a super fun group of volunteers (7)!

After all of that work and fun, Flat Stanley would get really tired! We’re living in a hotel right now, so Flat Stanley would spend each night curled up in the hotel’s big comfy bed (8)!

Even though Flat Stanley has been having a great time here in Atlanta, I think he has been missing all of you! So we are sending him back, with plenty of pictures so that he can remember his time in Atlanta!

Thank you for sharing Flat Stanley with us!

Love, Kristen (and Brandon!)

I’m sending the pictures and letter to Sophie’s class this weekend … hopefully they don’t find Stanley’s adventures too boring!  I’m thinking burgers and fro-yo might not be quite as exciting to a group of 6-year-olds as it is to me! Smile with tongue out

And finally, here are some summer recipes that I’ve been drooling over this week.  Enjoy!

- Jessica at How Sweet It Is shared a recipe for Roasted Strawberry, Brie, and Chocolate Grilled Cheese.  I mean, come on.

- Amy at Fearless Homemaker wrote about Fresh Strawberry Whole Grain Donuts.  If they have strawberries and whole-grain in them, then eating 5 is perfectly acceptable, right?

- Kathy at Healthy Happy Life has a recipe for a Pink Lemonade Coconut Water Frosty.  It looks so delicious, you’d never suspect it’s actually good for you!

Have a great weekend, everybody!!

Question for ya …

Ever heard of Flat Stanley?  Ever participated in the project?

If you had a Flat Stanley sent to you, where would you take him?

What are you up to this weekend?

Have any summertime recipes to share?  Link up!
