Pardon the running pun, but I’m in a silly mood this morning.
Last night I was super excited to have my husband home. He often has to travel for work, and he was in Iowa this week, so I was happy to see his smiling face again.
Since I knew that he’d bring dinner home for himself, I didn’t wait for him to eat. So I went ahead and made myself a turkey burger with these on the side:
Sweet potato fries that I got from the freezer section of Super Walmart (my choice of grocery stores is quite limited in Wapak).
And by the way, I show you these kinds of things not because I think you actually care about every single thing I eat… but in case some readers are interested in trying some new things that they didn’t know about before.
One of my favorite parts of reading other blogs is getting new product ideas and recipes!
After cooking up my turkey burger and fries, I had a pretty yummy looking plate.
Now I don’t know about you, but I love condiments. Brandon is able to eat a lot of things plain, but not me. I’ll load the sauces on. Ketchup, mustard, ranch dressing, honey mustard, tomato sauce, teriyaki sauce, pickles (are they considered a condiment? they should be.)… you name it, and it’s in my fridge (but no mayonnaise, please. yuck.). In college, I lived in an apartment with my friends Lauren and Christine. Lauren and I were both condiment junkies. I remember one time Christine couldn’t find room in the refrigerator door for her one little bottle of salad dressing because Lauren and I had taken up all the space. Sorry, Christine!
Anyway, I digress. After dinner, I made myself a tasty snack. A graham cracker spread with Cool Whip and topped with strawberries. Delicious and light!
The rest of the night was spent catching up with my husband. There was a lot to talk about, especially since we are getting ready to take a couple of trips in the next few weeks! First to Chicago this weekend and then to Florida! Brandon is going down mostly for work, but I’m just going down to visit my mom, friends, and Sophie.
I can’t believe that I’ve been blogging for a week now and I haven’t talked about Sophie yet! Sophie is my mom’s dog. I bought her for my mom Christmas ’09. Since I was living with my mom at the time, I became very close to Sophie. If you’re wondering, she’s a miniature Snoodle (half Schnauzer, half Poodle). These days, I wouldn’t exactly call her “miniature” (she’s doubled in size since that picture was taken!), but that’s the technical term.
I miss her a lot. For the first 6 months after I moved up to Ohio, every time my mom would Skype with me so that I could see Sophie, I would become a basketcase. I think my poor mom thought that I missed Sophie more than her (not true… but Sophie definitely runs a close second!
).
I’m digressing again (I have a tendency to do that). So after a relaxing night with Brandon, I went in to the computer room and found this written on our calendar:
Isn’t that sweet?! He probably won’t like that I am showing the world what a sweetie he is, but I don’t care! The world needs to know that I really have the best husband ever!
This morning I finally went running again! I haven’t been running since last Saturday, since my foot had been bothering me. It felt good to get back out there. It wasn’t the most relaxed that I’ve ever felt when running… probably because in the back of my head, I keep worrying about hurting myself again. But overall, it went well and I was able to get 3 miles in…
… and then I came back and iced my knees.
I look forward to the day when I don’t feel the need to ice anything! Hopefully that day will come sooner rather than later.
Well now it’s time to get cleaned up, run some errands, and then pack for our trip! I can’t wait to hit the road. And make sure you check out the blog this weekend because I plan to post about all of the super awesome foods that we’re going to be eating (Yes, I plan my trips around food. But really, who doesn’t?!)! I’m crossing my fingers that they will have internet access in the hotel room, so that I can try to post at least once a day while I’m gone. I know that my loyal readers (again, all two of them) would just be so sad if they didn’t get their Kristen-fix for multiple days, right?!?!
Before I take off…
Inquiring minds want to know…
What’s YOUR favorite condiment? Or are you a “plain-Jane” (in the condiment sense only, of course!
)?

What do the sweet potato fries taste like? Im not a fan of sweet potatoes so just curious if I would like them…I love french fries! If I could eat them everyday I so would
. Im kinda plain jane when it comes to condiments… for ex: on my burgers I only like ketchup n cheese, but if its a burger from the grill I will eat ketchup, mustard, cheese and miracle whip
.
I think they just taste like spicier, sweeter french fries. You might not like them if you really don’t like sweet potatoes, but if I think it would be worth a shot… sweet potatoes are really good for you, so if you like these fries, then it’s an easy way to eat them!
I think Ill give them a try, I up for trying new things. I do like sweet potato soufle, so maybe I would like them… Ill pick some up at the grocery next time…
How about a middle of the road condiment user
? I like some, but not much. Also, enjoy reading your posts and so glad you love running! Can’t wait to run together this fall.
Yay, I can’t wait either!!
Try apple butter as a dip with your sweet potato fries…yum!!! Have a great time in Chicago, we are heading there in two weeks and I CAN’T WAIT!!!
Oooh thanks for the tip… that sounds amazing!! Have fun when you go to Chicago… too bad we won’t be there at the same time!!
Ahh I’ve been having foot problems too! I have pain on the inside of my foot. What did you do? Just rest?
I didn’t run for several days, iced it (check out my post “girls just wanna have fun” for more details), took lots of Vitamin C, and tried to elevate it when I could. It’s frustrating, huh?! We want to push ourselves harder and harder but our bodies don’t always agree. Thanks for posting!

Mustard! Dijon Mustard to be more specific..and to be even more specific Grey Poupon Dijon! I use it so much, and I love that it’s actually quite healthy (because most of my favorite things are not). You can use it by itself on sandwiches (and to me no sandwich is a sandwich without mustard-ok, almost always) to make salad dressings, to marinate meats, to make sauces..etc. I also love kosher & sea salt, fresh cracked black pepper, a good min. 4-year aged balsamic vinegar, and extra virgin olive oil… mmm.. I could make so many things just off of those things alone! I loved this question, Kristin!
