Addison Grace: 6 months old

As hard as it is for me to believe, my sweet Addie is 6 months old today.

6 months 5-2000

Half a year.  Gone far too quickly.

6 months 3-2000

These last 6 months have been the most challenging and most special of my life.

I love this little girl more than I ever thought possible.  Life is just sweeter because she’s here.

6 months 2-2000

So what has Addison been up to this last month?

- She’s sitting up like a pro now.

011-2000

I still keep close to her because she’ll occasionally flop over … usually when she’s stretching to grab something she shouldn’t have (i.e., my cell phone).  But for the most part, she’s a pretty good sitter!

- She continues to try more solids.  New ones include butternut squash, peaches, pears, and green beans.  Oh, and in between bites, she often enjoys sucking on her toes! Smile with tongue out

007-2000

(At some point soon, I’ll be sharing how I’m making some of our baby food at home!)

- She also likes taking small sips of water out of her sippy cup.  It’s hilarious to watch her hold it like a “big girl” and drink from the straw!

001-2000

- She is obsessed with getting everything humanly possible in to her mouth.  And she doesn’t seem to care if the item weighs one pound or 10.  She will find a way to get it in there.

080-2000

- She is also obsessed with paper.  When I take her with me to get the mail, she’s lunging for it.  And if I try to read her a paper-back book, she’s much more focused on eating the book than reading it!

photo-2000

- She laughs deep, belly-laughs when she’s tickled under her arms, on the backs of her legs, and on her sides. Smile  Her laughs will never get old to me!

- She is now getting a kick out of “peek-a-boo!”

- Textures are also an interest now.  She loves touching the couch cushions, the patio chairs, the wood frame around our mirror … anything that has a new and interesting texture.

- I would swear she was teething, but I haven’t seen any signs of teeth yet.  But she gnaws on everything she can fit into her mouth, especially her teething rings!

006-2000

- She makes a ton of silly faces:

Addie 6 month faces

Seeing those silly faces puts the biggest smile on my face! Smile

- Her sleeping continues to be great (knocks huge quantities of wood).  She typically sleeps 7:30pm-7:00am.  She has two longer naps, which range from 1 hour, 15 minutes to 2 hours each.  She also usually has a catnap in the early evening that lasts 20-30 minutes, tops.  She sleeps on her back, belly, or side … it varies.  I always put her on her back, but you never know where she’ll end up!

- I don’t know her height and weight yet because her well-visit isn’t until next week.  But my guess is that she’s close to 15 pounds.

And that’s Addison at 6 months old!

6 months 4-2000

Question for ya …

If you have little ones, tell me what new things they’ve been doing recently!

      Thank you so much, Amy!

  2. Sara

She’s adorable! Victoria turned 5 months old this past Friday and she weighs 16 lbs, 6 oz. She has also started eating her feet! she’s not quite sitting up on her own yet though. we don’t start solids for another 4 weeks but i’m looking forward to your post on how you make baby food :)

Just keep practicing the sitting up thing with her. I think it helped to practice that particular skill. It was the one milestone I was really looking forward to, because I wanted her to be able to sit up for her 6 month photos (which should hopefully be happening this weekend!)! :)

I can’t believe she is 6 months! That was the fastest 6 months ever!! She is so sweet and I can’t wait to play peek-a-boo with her!! (By the way, Daddy looked totally perturbed in the video–were you interrupting golf on TV?!? LOL!)

Hahahaha I think he looked that way because we had already been playing “peek a boo” for about 5 minutes before I brought out the video camera. So he just wasn’t finding it quite as cute and adorable as he did when the game first started! ;) And yes, he probably was watching golf or football!

Congratulations on such a happy, healthy and beautiful little girl! May God’s blessings continue to be evident in your adorable family!

Aww thank you so much, Kacey. That means a lot!

That little Addie of yours is too cute for words! And I’m always so impressed by her physical developments! We’re still working on sitting up over here, but Hunter is getting the hang of it more and more. Did you work with Addie a lot on it or did she just kind of get the hang of it on her own? I just bought Hunter the same sippy cup a couple weeks ago, and he just wants to gnaw on the straw. Again, did Addie suddenly just start sipping it or did you have to “teach” her in some way?

I keep swearing that Hunter is teething too, but his pediatrician said there’s no signs of it! I told Hunter that it can’t be his excuse anymore when he’s extra fussy. ;)

We’ve been having a couple of very fussy days over here! Oy!

To answer your question, we definitely practiced sitting up. I’m in no rush for her to acquire most of her milestones, but sitting up was one that I really wanted her to get … I wanted her to be able to sit up for her 6 month professional pictures haha. So we practiced several times a day, and I think it really helped. I didn’t MAKE her sit up if she acted uncomfortable at all. But I would sit behind her and try to let her do it on her own for a few seconds before helping her. And with the straw sippy cup, I started out squeezing it so that liquid would shoot up in to her mouth. After doing that a few times, she got the concept and started sucking on it herself. :) Hope that helps, my friend!!

Is it weird that your post made me tear up a little bit? We’ll be hitting 6 months in about 3 weeks over here. Its crazy how fast it goes by! When did she start drinking water? She’s gorgeous! I love seeing her pics!

    • notsodomesticated

Hey Karen! Time goes by too quickly, doesn’t it?? EVERYTHING baby-related seems to make me tear up these days … just as my husband haha!

I’ve been giving her the sippy cup with water for maybe a month now whenever I give her solid foods (which is 2-3 times a day). But she barely drinks any of it. She takes a couple of small sips, and often forgets to swallow, so a lot of it ends up down her bib haha! I just want her to get used to the concept of a sippy cup. The Moms on Call program I follow recommends it. That way, when we do transition from a bottle to a sippy cup in the future, it isn’t such a huge thing because she’s already used to seeing it! :)

If I lived by you I would come over and do a photoshoot!! 6 months is the best age b/c they can sit up but they can’t crawl away!! =)

I would LOVE that! We’re supposed to be getting professional shots done this weekend, but they were supposed to be at the park and the weather is predicting rain on Saturday! So we’ll see what happens!

  8. amy @ fearless homemaker

Oh my goodness, she is the cutest thing ever! I love all her silly little faces. Too cute! And I love that our babies are so close in age – it’s fun to see what I’ll have to look forward to, milestone-wise, in a month or two! =)

    • notsodomesticated

Your daughter is adorable, too! We make cute babies haha! ;)

  9. Kathy

Her smile is so precious! And what a big girl sitting up all by herself. Emma also loves to get everything she can in her mouth – books, paper, toys, her hands and feet, other people’s hands, hair, etc. So funny!

Yeah we have to be so careful now, because she’ll grab at anything within reach … including dinner plates, food, knives! Yikes! ;)

Oh Kristen, she is just precious!! It just keeps getting more and more fun, doesn’t it?!

Thank you, Brittany! Yes, it does keep getting better and better. Life is pretty sweet right now!

  11. Leslie

Oh my gosh she is sitting up so well! I am seriously impressed. It’s so hard not to compare our Addison’s even though they are only 11 days or so apart but I feel like they are so similar in other ways. Our Addison sits but she leans SO FAR FORWARD it just looks so uncomfortable. I can’t wait until we can just plop them down with books and toys and watch them learn!

Haha well Addie’s newest thing is while she’s sitting down, she sees something she wants and leans WAY forward until she ends up doing a nose dive. ;) They are too funny!
