Addison Grace: 4 months old!

Happy Friday!! Smile

It’s funny.  I figured that now that I’m staying home full-time, I wouldn’t really notice the difference between a Monday or a Friday.  I mean, I do the same work every day so it doesn’t matter, right?  But I’ve found that I still really look forward to the weekends, because the weekends = daddy being home!  Addie and I both love having him with us all day!

And today is an extra special Friday because our sweet girl is turning 4 months old!

(Evidently she’s too cool to pose for pictures. Winking smile)

This last month has been a particularly fun one.  Here is what Addie has been up to:

  • She grabs at objects and tries to put everything (including her clothes!) in her mouth.

  • In the past, she smiled at her favorite toys.  Now she seems to reserve most of her smiles for people!  She just loves when we look her in the eye and give her a smile or a laugh.  She almost always gives one right back to us!

  • Her new favorite thing is my hair in her face!  When I allow my hair to brush against her cheeks, she gets a look of pure joy and either laughs or coos!
  • Her current favorite toys are either ones that light up or her “Build a Bear,” Maggie (my mom made it for her before she was born).
  • She loves looking in the mirror.  She also loves standing up like a big girl (with our help, of course).  So if you combine the two things, she’s in heaven!
  • She’s starting to get more hair!  It’s blonde so you can hardly tell, but it’s there!

  • She had her first little cold. Sad smile  Brandon had caught something when we were in Ohio, and we think he (accidently) passed it on to her.  She had congestion and an occasional cough for over a week.  Fortunately, it never resulted in a fever and didn’t affect her appetite.
  • We think she may be teething.  She’s drooling a lot and putting everything in her mouth.  She’s also a little crankier than usual.  I’m planning on asking the pediatrician about this on Monday at her well-visit appointment.
  • She rolled over from her back to her belly for the first time!  She had done the belly to back thing a few times in the past, but this was the first time she went back to belly.  She did it in bed and we found her like that in the morning.  So far, it’s only been that one time.  But hopefully she’ll start getting more consistent soon!

  • When she’s starting to get tired, she’ll whine and cry until you stand up with her and move.  Heaven forbid you try to sit!

  • She’s trying to start scooting on her belly!  It’s so funny because she moves her legs like crazy, and you can tell she’s trying to move forward.  But her hands don’t budge yet.  So she’s not getting too far! Winking smile
  • Naps have been rough the last couple of weeks.  We had previously dropped the swaddle for bedtime, and that went great.  But dropping it for naps has been much more difficult.  The Moms on Call woman that I’ve been emailing with (Laura) warned me that naps were difficult, and she wasn’t kidding!  Pretty much all of her naps are shorter now.  And although some days she does well and naps for an hour to an hour and a half at a time, other days she wakes up after 20-30 minutes and cries.  It’s loads of fun.  But Laura swears that the babies are able to transition after a couple of weeks, so I’m hoping that Addie starts consistently napping better soon!
  • She’s starting to get the hang of her jumper!  She will occasionally bounce herself, and she likes playing with the colorful toys that are attached to it.

Wow, clearly we’ve been busy this past month!  There were so many new things to share!

And finally, here’s a video of Miss Addie in the bath while we were in Ohio.  She had been laughing up a storm before I decided to put the camera in her face.  Then she quickly changed her attitude. Smile with tongue out

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  Enjoy these last few weeks of summer!

Question for ya …

If you have children, what new or fun things have they been in to recently?

What are you up to this weekend?

I know I’m going to be saying this EVERY month … but I can’t believe is four months old!! She’s so sweet! I miss her! (And you!) Would her naps stretch longer if you dropped one of them? Babies usually go from 3 naps a day to 2 naps a day (morning/afternoon) around this age, and then the 2 naps are a little longer. Only 30 minutes to get stuff done isn’t enough! ;)

We miss you too!! I’d love to change to fewer naps for longer periods of time, but she still seems sleepy after just 90 minutes or so of being awake! I’m really hoping that within the next month, I can shift to 2 longer naps and 1 catnap. I will say that her naps are starting to improve. She usually takes at least 1 good one a day, that lasts about 90 minutes. I cherish that time to get things done! ;)

I feel your pain about weaning from the swaddle…our oldest didn’t sleep for more than 45 minutes per nap for a LONG time with or without a swaddle…you are doing the right thing to get her weaned from it sooner rather than later, in my opinion! We actually bought a LARGER one for our oldest so he was still wearing it when he was able to roll…and so we’d put rolled up blankets around him to keep him from rolling over while swaddled (I checked on him a lot). For both of our boys, I eventually had to put them into a wearable blanket with the arms safety-pinned closed. It was looser than a swaddle but kept their arms out of their faces while they transitioned to sleeping with their arms out. :)

Yeah I think that dropping it sooner rather than later helps in the long run. At least I hope so! ;)

She’s such a cutie! We’re now at 10 weeks old, and still swaddling for all naps + bedtime, but she’s been breaking out of the swaddle almost every night (rarely during naps), so I know the transition to not-swaddling is near! She’s such a good napper now – 3 naps a day that last anywhere from 1-3 hours – that i’m super afraid of what it’ll be like when we finally wean off the swaddle. Wish us luck! =D

Good luck! In my opinion, if you let her cry and figure things out in the crib on her own, she’ll quickly adapt. I think it’s when we as parents run in every time they cry that it can take longer to adjust. But that’s just my opinion. You do what’s best for you and your family! :)

Re: the teething thing… I asked our pediatrician about it, and he said he’s most likely NOT teething even though there’s lots of drooling and stuff in the mouth, which I found interesting. He said right around 4 months, they just get this “oral fixation”, but teeth typically don’t come in until 6-12 months. I still am not convinced I believe him, but just thought I’d offer what he said. I’m curious what your pediatrician says about it! Let me know!

We’ve been doing a one arm out for nap swaddles…he’s been doing well with it, so I’m hoping it can be a smooth transition to no swaddle in the next few weeks. I’m really in no rush with it though. Maybe you could try that if it still doesn’t get better? Just a thought.

She’s looking so cute, as always! :)

I’ll definitely let you know what the pediatrician says. And for the most part, the naps are starting to go better. The last couple of days, she’s had at least 2 good naps … for about 90 minutes or so. So hopefully she continues this trend! :)

What a cutie! Isn’t it fun seeing all of their little developmental milestones? When my SIL came to visit with my nephew, we hadn’t seen him in a few months and it was crazy all the new things he could do!

What a sweet baby! It seems like they change every day! When I started staying at home with my son I though the same thing too, but it makes a BIG difference when you have help on the weekends.

What a cutie! Mirrors are a huge hit in our house as well. Also Lucas has been drooling and putting everything in his mouth for a few months now but at sixth months there are still no teeth in sight. I was told they can be “teething” for a few months before they actually start cutting teeth. I’m dreading that (for more than a few reasons) so the longer it takes for those little razor blades to pop through, the better!

Doesn’t the drool drive you crazy? Between drooling and spitting up, we make several wardrobe changes a day!

  9. Avery @ YoungAspirations

Adorable as always! Has it already been 4 months? That’s just crazy to me. Yay for rolling over! Also, I feel like the drooling/teething stage is never ending. Between church and our friends we are constantly surrounded by babies, and at this point I just expect to leave with drool spots. But I don’t mind :)

So cute! Emma also wants to be up and moving if she’s tired – so fun how similar babies are, even when they’re so different.
