A Thanksgiving "Must.”

Today I have one simple goal for this blog:

To share with you the ultimate Thanksgiving dessert.

Unfortunately, I can’t show you pictures of my own finished product, because I haven’t made it yet this year.  This dessert is reserved solely for Thanksgiving because it’s just that good.

I could wait until Thanksgiving to share the recipe with you, but then all of you wouldn’t have the opportunity to make it for your own Thanksgiving dinner!

Aren’t I generous? Winking smile

The recipe is called Pumpkin Gooey Butter Cake.  It’s a Paula Deen recipe, so you know that it’s not exactly a low-cal food.  But it is totally worth every calorie.

I make the recipe exactly as-is, except for one thing.  You need all 8 tbsp of butter for the cake crust, but you do not need all 8 tbsp for the filling.  You can just use 4 tbsp, or you can even leave it out all together and it still tastes amazing.

And my only other tip … make sure you do not over bake this cake!  It will look gooey in the middle and like it’s not done, but that’s the point.  It will firm up when you let it sit out of the oven.  If you over bake it, it just doesn’t taste as good.  Believe me, I made that mistake a couple of times! Annoyed

Oh, and make sure you serve your cake with whipped cream.  It adds that final “something” to the dessert!

I brought this dessert in to work before for a party, and it was the first thing to go.  Everyone emailed me soon after to ask for the recipe.  It’s definitely a winner!!! Thumbs up

Question for ya …

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dessert?

Have you ever made one of Paula’s gooey cakes??

I’ve made her original gooey butter cake, but this pumpkin one is way better, in my opinion! Smile

You know that a recipe is good when you receive emails after a party asking you for the recipe ;)

I’m usually too stuffed that I can barely eat dessert. I always eat waaaay too many appetizers and then gorge on stuffing. Stuffing is totally the best.

Totally agree with you on this dessert! I have loved it since a pilot’s wife made if for us in Germany. Ever since then I’ve been making it. My mom asks me to make about 4 pans for her on Thanksgiving..lol. She loves it too :) Have you made yours in the round cheesecake shape? I’ve only made mine in the rectagular baking pans.

I’ve only used rectangular baking pans, too. That’s just the picture I found on her website haha! I’m glad you agree with me on how good this cake is. I hope other people try it because it’s just too good not to!

This looks so delicious (and pretty!!)…it would be a perfect Thanksgiving dessert and could double as a centerpiece. I would skip the turkey and have two slices of cake ;)
