Hi friends! ![]()
I have another WIAW to share, but first …
Laurie sent me this Sunshine Award!
This prize is awarded to “bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere”. As an award winner, there are a few rules to follow:
- Thank the person who gave this award and write a post about it.
- Answer the questions below.
- Pass on the award to 10 fabulous bloggers, link their blogs, and let them know you awarded them.
Thank you so much, Laurie, for giving me the Sunshine Award! Everyone needs to be sure to go check out her blog … she just ran her first half-marathon in May! Go Laurie!!
And now for the questions:
1. Favorite color? I don’t really have a favorite color. I’m a total girly girl, so I love pink. But I also love green. And most of our house is decorated in some type of green!
2. Favorite Animal?
My mom’s puppy, Sophie. ![]()
3. Favorite number? I’ve always liked the number 15 since high school. It was my powderpuff number, and I’ve used it for various email addresses. And now, guess why else I like it? ![]()
4. Favorite color? I DON’T KNOW! STOP ASKING ME THESE HARD QUESTIONS! ![]()
5. Favorite drink? Water. A nice cold glass of Riesling is great too, though.
6. Facebook or Twitter? Facebook. I just joined Twitter, so I’m still learning!
7. What is your passion?
My faith. I love Jesus … the end.
If you ever want to talk more about the subject, you can always email me (notsodomesticated@yahoo.com)!
8. Giving or getting presents? Both are great, but gifts aren’t really my love language. I like giving the gift of quality time. So I’m much more likely to buy someone tickets to a football game or concert or something … so we can go together and gain those memories!
(Case in point: Brandon’s birthday gift last year … tickets to an Ohio State game!)
9. Favorite day of the week? Saturday because it’s the one day we usually have completely free. But I also love Sundays because I love our church!
10. Favorite flower? I honestly have no idea. But the flowers I picked from our backyard recently are really pretty!
Rather than give the award to 10 more people, I’m going to give it to EVERYONE reading (I know, I’m such a cheater). If anyone wants to complete the questionnaire, consider yourself nominated! ![]()

And now, let’s more on to WIAW!

Since we’re also discussing fitness this month, here’s what I’ve been doing the past week to stay healthy!
Thursday – 1 hour spin class + some weight training
Friday – rest
Saturday – ran 3.1 miles in 29 minutes
Sunday – rest/church
Monday – 1 hour cardio kickboxing/STRIKE class
Tuesday – ran 3 miles with Run Club at Lifetime
Wednesday – I’ll either do another cardio kickboxing class or maybe I’ll finally break down and take a yoga class … ?
And now eats!
Breakfast: Peanut butter and banana on an English muffin
Lunch: Salad + 1/2 of a Kashi Thin Crust Margherita pizza (this pizza was good but not very big!)
Snack: Cherries
Dinner: Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup (click on link for recipe). I wanted something easy and delicious that would give us plenty of leftovers for the week!
Dessert: Oreo Pudding Poke Cake.
See below for details!
OK so this dessert.
I followed this recipe, so click on the link for full details.
But I did want to add one slight change to the directions, based on some of comments the original recipe received, and what worked for me!
* Don’t make the pudding until the cake comes out of the oven. When the cake comes out, first make your holes with the handle of a wooden spoon.
Then make your pudding.
After you stir everything together, let it sit for just a minute or two. You want the mixture to start thickening slightly, but you still want it to be pretty liquidy when you pour it on the cake!
And be sure to press down lightly on the pudding mixture so that it will seep down into the holes of the cake!
Be warned: This cake is seriously addicting. I may or may not have eaten four three pieces after church on Sunday. ![]()
Question for you …
What is the best thing you’ve eaten this week?
What have you been doing to work up a sweat?
Answer one or more of the questions from the Sunshine Award!
Thoughts on The Bachelorette??

I haven’t had a Poke Cake in years! My mom would make a vanilla cake and use orange jello for the filling. Your cake looks yummy!
Angela @ Happy Fit Mama recently posted..Smoothies For Everyone
My mom always made that exact flavor combo.
I just made the Oreo pudding one last weekend and it was pretty good. I’m going to try it with a chocolate cake from scratch, though. I have been cooking from scratch for so long now that I couldn’t really handle the fake taste of the cake. I have never made pudding from scratch, so I don’t think that’s what it was. I have no idea. Maybe I just got a bad box. Something was just OFF. Ew =\
Jordan @ Bake Write Sleep recently posted..Seriously? Those are Jello shots?
I make 98% of my baked goods from scratch, so I know what you mean. But I actually find it challenging to make a really good cake from scratch. I’ve only made one so far. Now cookies, brownies, pies, etc … those are a bit easier for me!
1. I made an amazing recipe this week and I know you like a good crockpot recipe: http://skinnyms.com/balsamic-chicken/
It’s yummy, you should try it! Simple and delicious.
2. Unfortunately not much sweating is occurring between school and starting my new job:/ any ideas on trying to fit everthing in lol
3. My recent favorite flower are those as well! I just saw them in someones yard and my mom said when you grow them they are naturally white and you can get colors when you sprinkle something on them? I am going to have to look into this.
4.I don’t watch the Batchellorette.
Hmm for the sweating thing, I have found that just doing random squats/lunges/planks while watching TV or just to give myself a break from doing work around the house helps! Like if you’re watching your favorite show, do a few push-ups, squats, and jumping jacks during the commercial breaks! I’ll even do squats while brushing my teeth or waiting for something to heat up in the microwave! Haha!
Hydrangeas are super beautiful! Their color is based on the pH of the soil. Most soil is naturally acidic or basic, so they always come out blue, pink or purple!

Wow, I’m impressed with your flower knowledge! I had no idea!
I have never heard of a “poke cake” before, but it looks amazing (insert drooling!!!!). I’m so anxious to try it out once I head to the store and get all the necessary ingredients!
Thank you for sharing those 7 facts
. If I had to pick a favorite day of the week it’d be Sunday. Sundays are the only day the hubs has off work.
Lately all I’ve really been doing is running, and of course 8 miles works up a real good sweat!
Have a great day girl
<3
jessie recently posted..Birthday Surprise
Oh yes … 8 miles is certainly good for sweating!
When I read the title of this post, I thought “how is she going to make poke into a cake?” The poke I was thinking of is the spicy Hawaiian fish dish, haha. Your poke cake looks a lot more appetizing than what I was envisioning!
The best thing I’ve eaten this week has been raw coconut – yum! I’ve been sweating it up with lifting (hit a new bench and pull-up PR!), rowing, Pilates and biding my time to let my back heal so that I can get back into running.
Hope you have a grand remainder of the week!
Courtney recently posted..From Turns and Flips to Runs and Lifts
Haha Courtney that is too funny! I’ve heard of the poke that you’re referring to. And I don’t think it would taste very good with Oreo pudding!!
I haven’t had a poke cake in years, but that may have to change soon:) Looks delicious! I’ve started adding a day of swimming into my fitness routine and it’s killing me! I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack in the pool after a few laps…I’m hoping it gets easier soon:P

Giving tickets to an event is also something I love doing! I gave my boyfriend tickets to a Texas football game last fall and he absolutely loved it.
Recently my workouts have been lots of circuits (mostly from Julie at Peanut Butter Fingers) and lots of swimming. I forgot how awesome of a workout swimming could be!

ive never heard of a poke cake but yum, it looks delicious!
best thing ive eaten this week…hmm, definitely the hawaiian pizza from sunday
ive in marathon training so i feel like im constantly working up a sweat, mostly by running!
Theresa recently posted..Things on the horizon
Good for you, girl! I want to run a full marathon at some point, but I’m just not there quite yet!
My fav color used to be green for the longest time, but now it’s yellow!
That cake looks amazing! Lately, I’ve been having the craziest sweet tooth ever, so I’m kind of afraid to make this one. I don’t trust myself…no self-restraint whatsoever!
We had neighbors over the other night, so I was able to give them a bunch of it. Otherwise, I would have been in trouble!
Yum! That friggin’ poke cake looks super tasty. Also, I’m with you on the gift giving! My family and I have started giving each other either homemade gifts or “relational” gifts as we call them (movie tix, etc) for Christmas instead of just going to the store and buying random things for each other. It is so much more rewarding!
Amber with Slim Pickin’s Kitchen recently posted..The Skinny On Me Week 13: The 4th of July x 2
I love that idea for gifts, Amber!
holy moly – that oreo poke cake sounds amazing! i would totally demolish that baby in no time.

oh the bachelorette… i was so torn after watching monday’s episode. i can’t imagine how emily felt! i do love sean for his family, faith, and looks, but i can see why emily is drawn to arie and jef too. it’s a tough one!
Ashley @ My Food ‘N’ Fitness Diaries recently posted..WIAW #42: Food + Fitness
Umm that pudding cake looks pretty perfect! I have made one of those before… a white cake with jello poured in. It was pretty good, but I want to try this version!
My favorite color is blue… slightly darker than sky blue, it’s just so gorgeous!
Tessa @ Amazing Asset recently posted..WIAW- Doing It Anyway
I’ve heard of poke cakes with jello, but I’m not a huge jello fan. That’s why I liked this one. Oreo pudding = amazing!
That cake looks amazing! As for the Bachelorette, I hope she picks Jef. It took me a while to warm up to him but he seems really genuine. Arie just gives me the creeps for some reason…
Jef has been my favorite from Day 1! And I agree … I’m not an Arie fan!
That cake looks beyond amazing!!! I vote Sean for the next Bachelor! I am so sad he’s gone. Now I’m rooting for Jef!
Danielle recently posted..WIAW and ….It’s a Food Holiday!
I agree about Sean being the next Bachelor! I would definitely watch. But let’s be honest … I’ll watch regardless! Haha!
A poke cake, I hadn’t seen one of those in years! The vanilla cake with orange in it sound tasty from the previous response! This week I’ve been swimming, biking and running to work up a sweat (mile swim on Monday, almost a 5 mile run yesterday, but you already knew that : ), and a bike ride this morning around my neighborhood to work on bike handling and gearing since the kids were at VBS I could actually get outside and ride – woot!! Tomorrow is a rest day and then Friday a bike run brick workout and an open water swim clinic on Saturday. Fun fun! I haven’t followed the entire season of Bachelorette as I work on Mon nights and we don’t have a DVR, but I’ve watched the last few episodes online as this is the point in the season where I start getting into it. Jef all the way, Arie also gives me the creeps a bit. The ‘physical chemistry’ Arie and she keep talking about isn’t a good idea to get wrapped up in when talking forever, let’s get real, after a few years the ‘chemistry’ doesn’t make a relationship tick anymore and there needs to be more substance for longevity, especially once kids come along (I’m no expert, but I’ve been married almost 11 years and have 2 children, so I have a little clue LOL!) Jef is my kind of guy, though, so I’ll admit, I have a bit of a crush!
Oh my goodness, I knew we were friends for a reason!
I totally agree about everything you said regarding the Bachelorette. Just because you like kissing a guy doesn’t mean you’re supposed to spend the rest of your life with him! And I kind of have a crush on Jef, too haha … shh, don’t tell!!
I have made that cake before and I agree that it is easy to eat three pieces!

The taco soup!! Love it, that has become a staple in our house, thanks to you!
I have never heard of poke cake, and now all I can think about is having one. Thanks a lot.

Okay so I was SO crushed when she sent Sean home- he truly is the “perfect” guy! Ha I think he was a little too shy for here though cause he couldn’t open up as much as the others. I honestly don’t care who wins, but I think she will pick Arie because the physical attraction and because of the lifestyle, since it’s something she used to do with her other husband.
