24 Weeks: Bathing suit shopping while pregnant should be illegal.

I have to start this post by stating that although I haven’t said anything publicly (on Facebook, Twitter, etc.) about the tragedy that occurred on Friday, it doesn’t mean that I haven’t been thinking about it every day.  I simply feel that words do not do this situation justice.  Instead, I am praying.  I am calling out to the God of the universe who is still in control.  And I am trusting in Him.

Revelation 21:1-4 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

And now, I’m transitioning into the post that I had already written …

24 Weeks

What is the baby doing this week?

According to this website, “Your baby is about eight and a half inches long and weighs one and a half pounds, gaining steadily at a rate of six ounces per week. Much of that weight comes from accumulating baby fat, as well as from growing organs, bones, and muscle. Those little ears of hers are getting sharper and can hear very loud sounds, from a yapping dog to a jackhammer. Also by now, that fabulous face is almost fully formed, complete with eyelashes, eyebrows, and hair. Is your baby a brunette, a blonde, or a redhead? Actually, right now her locks are white since there’s no pigment yet.”

Symptoms/Physical Changes:

- She’s been moving around a lot this week!  So I’m constantly feeling her kick and punch.  Right now, it’s cute.  But I have a feeling that it won’t be as cute when she’s 6 pounds!

- I’m feeling more abdomen pain/cramping, which I’m guessing just means things are growing and stretching down there.

- Less acid reflux this week, which is nice! Thumbs up

I had a small bowl of ice cream every night this week.  But I wouldn’t call it a “pregnancy craving” … unless I just want to use the pregnancy as an excuse. Winking smile

Fun events:

- We bought a crib and glider this past weekend!  And our baby bedding was finally delivered.  I’m excited to start putting things together!

- I have another doctor’s appointment tomorrow.  I always enjoy the appointments, because I get confirmation that everything is going as it should!

Finally, can we just get real for a second?

Does anyone else agree that bathing suit shopping while pregnant should be illegal? Annoyed

Brandon and I are going to Marco Island over the holidays (yep, the same place where we spent the holidays last year).  We will be sitting by the pool or on the beach every day.  So I need to wear a bathing suit.

(I know, poor me.  I have to lay in the sun for a week.  Cry me a river.)

I tried on my old bathing suits last week, and that was just hysterical.

So on Saturday, I started out at Von Maur in the juniors section, thinking that I could buy a normal bathing suit, just in a slightly bigger size.

Yeahhh … that wasn’t pretty.

We eventually ended up at a local maternity store, Izzy Maternity.

The sales people at this store were very nice.  After trying on a few too many suits, I did eventually leave the store with a purchase.  And believe it or not, it’s a two-piece.

(I wish I rocked the suit with nearly as much confidence as that model!)

This girl is going to need a LOT of tanning lotion before I will be caught dead in that suit.

Actually, let’s be honest.  There’s about a 99% chance that I’m going to keep my cover-up on for pretty much the entire week! Winking smile

Question for ya …

What’s on your agenda for this weekend before Christmas?

Is anyone still trying to finish up their Christmas shopping?

Anyone traveling for the holidays?

Anyone else ever been pregnant and had to wear a bathing suit??

Rock the 2 piece! I always admire pregnant women on the beach who are rockin’ the 2-piece. They look super-confident!

I love that you went to the juniors department first — I’d probably do the same thing, but some of those suits are so tiny, even for people who aren’t pregnant! I’m glad you found something you feel comfortable in! You’ll look great!

Hi! Haha.. funny about the bathing suit thing- I just inherited all my maternity clothes from my friend so I never had to shop for that! A larger one-piece I had did work for a bit.. but then it stretches so that when you aren’t pregnant it’s “loose”. How fun, Marco Island is a great place to vacation! But are you spending any time in Sarasota? It would be so nice to see you! Glad little Addy is doing well! Love ya.

You look so cute! I always admire pregnant women that are confident enough to walk around in a two piece. You will totally rock it! I do have to admit though, I’m glad I’m pregnant during the winter and not traveling anywhere that I need to be wearing a suit. Ha!

    You are gonna look great!
I’m kinda loving that thing you have on the wall behind you in your pregnancy shot.
A small bowl of ice cream every night sounds great to me. Maybe I should be pregnant? ;-) ha!

You look amazing in your latest 24 weeks pregnancy shot! I say rock the two-piece and nix the cover-up, at least one of the days! :) Either way, enjoy & happy holidays!!

P.S. I completely agree with your words/actions re: the latest school shootings –>”I simply feel that words do not do this situation justice. Instead, I am praying. I am calling out to the God of the universe who is still in control. And I am trusting in Him.”
    My sentiments exactly.

  9. Maura @ My Healthy 'Ohana

I actually really enjoyed wearing my bathing suit while pregnant…I got a black tankini style suit from Old Navy and never felt more comfortable in my own skin :) I hope you have a relaxing, wonderful vacation!! We’re doing a very low-key Christmas this year, and I’m so thankful. This weekend, I’m hoping to just decorate the tree with the last of the ornaments, bake up some cookies with my daughter, sing Christmas songs, and just spend quality family time together :)

Haha! I feel your pain!! :)
Living in Florida, I was ALWAYS in my bathing suit this past summer..and I was at the point where it was like, ‘IS she pregnant, or is she enjoying food a bit more lately?!’ ;)
I could not wear my old bathing suits either….the umm…boobs were pretty much falling out. Ew. But I was able to find a few new ones with quite larger tops!
I hope you enjoy your holidays! Xo

I know right? It was summer when I delivered my twins and we spent a lot of time at the pool before (I loved it because it took pressure off my back and was great exercise) I looked like a whale though… 38 weeks pregnant with twins in a swim suit is NOT hot. HA! I just wore an XL workout top and my normal bottoms. It worked…
I just found your blog and I’m excited to follow along!

Hey Candice! I’m amazed that you were able to get to 38 weeks with twins! That is amazing!! :) My neighbor had twin boys, and they were premies at 29 weeks. Thankfully, they are now about 9 months and doing great!! :)

  12. Amber with Slim Pickin's Kitchen

Glad to know the acid reflux has subsided a bit. That’s like my worst fear when it comes to pregnancy. Glad you got a glider too! There is a thrift store in my hometown that gets all of Target’s super duper clearance stuff that doesn’t sell, and they had a brand spanking new glider for $35! Even though we don’t have kids and weren’t expecting to for a while, I *TOTALLY* bought that bad boy! It was just too good a deal to pass up!

  13. Molly @ Just Your Average Athlete

The idea of bathing suit shopping while I’m pregnant makes my eye twitch. Honestly, though, I’ve seen some pregnant women on the beach rocking a two-piece and look beautiful. I think it’s all about embracing the bump and being confident about it.

I went jean shopping with my best friend when she was pregnant and jeans were flying everywhere. I can only imagine what a pregnant woman goes through when bathing suit shopping! I am sure you will rock the bathing suit :-) I never knew about the pigment for a baby’s hair. I always thought it was one color from the start.
