22 Weeks: Baby Registries are Confusing.

Hello, Monday.  Nice to see you again.

(Not. Annoyed)

This weekend flew by for me.  Brandon and I had a sushi and shopping date on Friday night.  Saturday was spent crossing several items off of our to-do list, prior to watching the SEC game with some friends.  Then I spent most of my day on Sunday at church, followed by watching Brandon string Christmas lights on our outside bushes.

Oh, what an exciting life I lead. Winking smile

22 Weeks

What is the baby doing this week?

According to this website, “… baby weighs in at a whopping pound and measures nearly eight inches, about the size of a small doll. But your little doll (who now has eyebrows, eyelashes, and maybe even some hair on that little head) is a living one who can now perceive light and dark. She can also hear your voice, your heartbeat, your gurgling stomach, and the whoosh-whoosh of blood circulating through your body. And as her brain and nerve endings develop, she may reach for her face (or whatever she can reach) just to experiment with her newfound sense of touch. “

Symptoms/Physical Changes:

Nothing really.  Same things as last week.  I did have some sharper pains in the abdomen area on Friday, which kind of made me nervous.  But I called my doctor’s office and the nurse said unless I’m having contractions more than 6 times an hour or bleeding, it’s nothing to worry about.

I didn’t want to call initially, because I don’t want to be that ‘crazy first-time pregnant lady” and call every two minutes.  But my friends at work encouraged me to call ‘just in case,’ and I know it’s better to be safe than sorry!

Cravings:

Still nothing major.  I feel like I’m back to “normal Kristen” mode, only I’m eating a little more.  However, I did eat half a pint of Ben & Jerry’s “Late Night Snack” ice cream on Friday.  It’s vanilla ice cream with a salted caramel swirl and fudge-covered potato chip pieces.  I’m clearly digging the salty-sweet thing right now. Winking smile

Fun events:

I started doing our registries at Babies R Us and Target this week.  I’ve been working on them online, because I’m afraid if I go to the store, I’ll have absolutely no idea where to start!

I had a few friends send me their “favorite baby items,” so I’ve been using their lists as references.  But it’s still SO overwhelming!

Who knew that in order for your newborn baby to sleep properly, you “needed” (I use that term loosely, because I know not everyone around the world uses these items!) a baby chair, swing, pack and play, bassinet, crib, rocking chair, glider, pacifiers, and swaddle blankets??  I just thought you needed a crib!  My mind is officially blown! Smile with tongue out

But as overwhelming as it is, it’s also really fun.

It’s also fun to start thinking about how I want to decorate her room.

Here’s just a few “inspirational pictures” that I found on Pinterest, as I think about how I want her room to look:

baby room 1

(source)

baby room 2

(source)

baby room 3

(source)

Now the room I decorate will look nothing like those rooms, because: a) I’m not a professional decorator and b) I’m not a millionaire.  But I like getting ideas.  I especially like the chandeliers.  If anyone knows where I can score a cheap(er) one of those, feel free to let me know!

Question for ya …

What did you do this weekend?

Any tips on “must buy” baby items?  Feel free to send me a link for the specific products!

I love the white nursery look for a girl… It’s so clean and classy. I agree, the registry stuff is pretty confusing. I have edited our’s a TON throughout the past month or so. After some extensive researching, I think I finally have the hang of it though. ;) We went to Target the other day to look at some of the stuff we have on our registry in person, and it helped a lot. I liked reading the reviews online, and then checking it out in person to see if I liked how it looked and felt.

Those rooms are so adorable! I love them! So sweet and elegant! I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!

That last crib is to die for! Love it. Well the only item that I know of that most moms seem to have/like (from being around my friends with babies) are those pacifiers that you put your fingers in. Not really sure why they are so great, but everyone loves them! Oh and also sleep sacks. Those are the bomb (apparently). ;-)

Love the neutral look for a nursery…so calm! I’ve heard crazy stories about baby registries and am sure that I will be completely overwhelmed when that day comes! But keep in mind that your baby already has the most important things she needs…two loving, Godly parents. The rest is just fluff!

The nursery idea is adorable- love it- so classy :)
Ok, so for DEFINITES on registry for a newborn…a bassinet (we used Fisher Price Rock n’ Play- she LOVES it- recommended to us by a bunch of people- it’s where she sleeps at night for now..until about 8 weeks or so, then we’ll put her in her crib)
Baby Bjorn- this thing has been a LIFE SAVER. She LOVES it, when I can’t get her to nap I put her in it & she typically falls right to sleep!
    The boppy..of course :)
Lots of sleepers- the onesie pj’s- get the ones with zippers- they rock- easy for hubbys ;)
LOTS of blankets/ spit clothes/ etc. You will need them when she feeds- G gets milk EVERYWHERE- all of her & me. Quite a site ;)
Also, about swaddling, not all babies like it- G did NOT- so just don’t open them all & wash them until you are sure she likes to be swaddled :)
Also another piece of advice that was given to me- don’t wash all of your bottles right when you get them, just wash like one set- that way in case she doesn’t like them you can take the unopened ones back. I know how I was- I wanted everything washed & ready to go…but some stuff you can’t return once opened.

Thank you so much! Great advice!! I will definitely be referring to this list!

Those chandeliers are so cute! If you find out where to get them for cheap, you need to post about them :) . I used to nanny for a family who had them in their baby’s room, but I doubt that they were very affordable.

Umm did you just say Ben and Jerry’s makes ice cream with potato chips in it?? Like music to a preggers ears!!

Registering is so overwhelming. I read a lot of reviews on amazon and went to stores with a plan. I can’t decide on the spot what freaking bottles to get without knowing the pros and cons. I actually did a whole post on my registry must haves recently, I don’t know if it will help. But most of the items I ended up with were mom-approved items from friends recommendations! You can find it here: http://onefifteendanville.blogspot.com/2012/11/baby-registry-musts-first-time-mom.html

Good luck! Tackle one category at a time and don’t overwhelm yourself!

Favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavor is definitely Half Baked. You can’t go wrong with chocolate and vanilla ice cream with cookie dough and brownie chunks! Yum!

  10. Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance

    You’re not a professional decorator!? I kidd I kidd :D

I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be to register gift items for a baby. I barely know what I want for my own gifts when people ask, let alone what I would need for a baby! Luckily, I’ve got you and Ash to ask when that time comes ;) haha

I’ve never had that ice cream flavor, but man, I need it in my life! I love the color schemes you pinned – very classic!

  12. Kathy

I love those ideas for a nursery! That Ben & Jerry’s ice cream sounds AMAZING. I’m going to have to check that out. And I agree, all the baby stuff is confusing. We don’t have a very big house so we’re trying to find the 2-in-1 baby things (like a swing + bouncer seat) to save on space. Good luck!

  13. Maura @ My Healthy 'Ohana

You have a very elegant style!!

Every child is different, so it would be great if you could borrow some of the bigger purchase items to see if she will like it. For instance, we got our Snugabunny cradle swing from Craigslist because our daughter didn’t like swings at all, but Ryan LOVES it and takes all his naps in there. It’s a lifesaver with him, but I’d be SO sad if we spent over $100 on something that he never used, you know? I love My Brest Friend (crazy name) pillow for nursing. I have so many more recs, but I’m sure you have a ton of information already from friends!
