Happy Monday, friends!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Brandon and I had an incredible week in Ohio. Not only did we get to spend precious time with family and friends, but we also found out the gender of our baby! ![]()
On Tuesday, Brandon and I went to the doctor’s office for our sonogram.
Before beginning the process, we told the woman that rather than telling us the gender, we wanted her to call someone for us and leave them a voicemail with the gender information. So she knew that we didn’t want to find out the sex that day.
The baby was moving around like crazy, so the poor sonogram woman took at least 20 minutes trying to get measurements. At this point, she had the sonogram screen pointed away from us, so we couldn’t see what was going on. Eventually, she was finished with her measurements and was able to show us our baby on the screen.
The last time we had seen our baby, it was at 6 weeks, so we basically just saw a dot on the screen. To see an actual head, mouth, spine, etc … well, it was nothing short of amazing.
Hello, little alien baby. ![]()
The sonogram woman then told us that everything looked perfect, and that she did know the baby’s gender. It was so difficult to leave that office without knowing if we were having a boy or a girl!
On Thanksgiving morning, while we were busy preparing for the day’s festivities, we received a very special delivery.
Our dear family friend, Lisa, was the one who had received the phone call from the sonogram woman. After finding out the gender, she made us these gorgeous cupcakes.
Do you know how difficult it was to stare at those cupcakes for several hours, dying to know if they held pink or blue frosting inside?? ![]()
Eventually, all of Brandon’s family members arrived at his parents’ house for Thanksgiving dinner. We piled everyone into the office, so that we could Skype with my mom and Brandon’s brother’s family on the home computer.
With an audience of about 15 people, we tentatively pulled the paper liners off of our cupcakes,
took a couple of big bites,
and about died from shock and joy!
Ladies and gentleman …
… WE’RE HAVING A GIRL!

Possible thoughts running through my head during the above picture:
“She is going to be such a girly girl!”
“I can’t wait to force her to wear those headbands with the gigantic flowers on them!”
“We’re going to have to pay for a wedding!”
“I don’t know how to do a little girl’s hair!”
“OH MY GOODNESS, WE’RE HAVING A LITTLE GIRL!”
Our little girl is going to be named Addison Grace. Her nickname will be “Addie.”
And we could not be more thrilled. ![]()

A quick pregnancy update …
(P.S. I cheated and took this picture on Thursday. So I was actually 20.5 weeks. But isn’t it amazing how much I grew in just a few short days??)
Symptoms/Physical Changes:
- Some minor discomfort around the rib area, particularly after eating.
- I suddenly look (and feel) incredibly pregnant, at least in my opinion. Baby Addison has made herself quite clearly known!
- My belly button is getting shallower and shallower. It’s so weird (but kinda cool!)!
- I have finally started to feel her move in there! There were a couple of nights last week when I could actually feel her with my hand when I pressed down on my belly. ![]()
Cravings:
- Nothing major. My sweet tooth seems to be returning slowly, but I also love my salty foods. And I’ve been enjoying a lot of fresh fruit!
What is the baby doing this week?
According to this website, Addie is the size of a large banana.
The website also says, “…and speaking of bananas, if you eat one this week, there’s a good chance your baby will get a taste, too. That’s because he swallows a bit of amniotic fluid each day (for nutrition, hydration, and to practice digesting), so he eats whatever’s on your menu — and gets to put those developing taste buds to good use. So go ahead and nosh on those nachos (or crunch those crudités): Your baby may develop a taste for them when he’s older.”
Fun Events:
Now that we know that we’re having a little girl, I’m excited (and nervous!) to start working on our registry and shopping for the nursery!
Question for ya …
How was your Thanksgiving?
I feel like I’ve been out of the loop for a week (because I have!). Update me on your lives!
Best thing you ate on Thanksgiving?
If you’ve been pregnant, did you find out the sex during your pregnancy or did you wait? Anyone else do a ‘gender reveal?’

I LOVE her name! You must vote so excited to really start planning for her arrival.
well, I’m not sure what happened…please ignore the “vote” in my comment. It was supposed to say “You must BE” oops!
Haha Jennifer you are so funny! I was so confused at first!
Thanks for your kind words!!
that is the most exciting way of finding out the gender that i have ever heard about!
who did come up with this idea?
congratulations!
Thank you, Cilla! I think it’s becoming a popular thing recently. I came up with the cupcake idea after seeing other people do something similar with a cake.
Thank you for your kind words!!
We chose to not find out with either of our boys until they were born! It was fun.

yay! that was seriously the cutest way ever to reveal what you are having! I love it! Those babies on top of the cupcakes are awesome! Congrats on the baby girl! I love little girl clothing whenever I see it out! There are so many cute dresses!(:
We found out “by mistake” when at 12 weeks the OB could not find a fetal heartbeat. They gave us an emergency ultrasound. we thought we had a girl but but the sonographer told us to stop calling the baby a “she”! Seems like enter day – can’t believe I now have my 3-week old son in my arms
best thing ever.

It’s so fun to have strangers now approaching me, asking if I’m having a boy or a girl! Personally, I think they’re quite brave. Even when I’m 100% sure someone is pregnant, I’m scared to say anything haha! And yes, I love having her moving around in there. It’s so awesome!! Love you! Can’t wait to see your update tomorrow!
I literally just teared up. So excited for you guys! What a cool way to reveal!

Wooohooo a Girl!! That is pretty awesome plus girls clothing is much cutter
Btw, that was the most original way to reveal the baby’s sex.
Her name Addison reminds me of a character on the show Private Practice. Luv it!
Have a good rest of the week!
