18 weeks: OK, now I look pregnant.

Another happy Monday, friends!

As hard as it is to believe, we’re already in to November.  Is anyone else finding that fact mind boggling?  In just a couple of short weeks, we’ll be in Ohio, visiting friends and family for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Oh, and we’ll be finding out the sex of our baby.  You know.  No biggie. Winking smile

This past weekend was an incredibly special one.  I was blessed to be a part of a dear friend’s baby shower.

That’s Jessie with her mom, Jana.

Jessie is a new friend, but we’ve gotten close quite quickly.  And I was honored to help throw her a baby shower for her soon-to-be bundle of joy, Jenna Lynn!

Of course, I had a ton of help.  Our friend, Anna, made all of the beautiful decorations.

And Leigh (above on the right) took care of the fun games!

While Katy made these gorgeous favors:

I’m sure it’s no surprise that I took the lead with the food. Winking smile

I made meatballs (click for the recipe) that were a big hit, as well as …

double tomato bruschetta (but this time, I added fresh tomatoes as well, so it was really triple tomato bruschetta!),

pumpkin whoopie pies (always a popular little treat),

and an incredibly addicting ranch dip, with cheddar cheese and bacon (recipe to come on Wednesday!).

We also ordered cupcakes from Cuppalicious Specialty Cupcakes.

Are those not the cutest cupcakes you’ve ever seen?

cupcakes_baby shower 3

For the shower, we ordered carrot cake and white chocolate raspberry cupcakes.  Both were heavenly, but I think the carrot cake stole my heart.

If any of you live in the Atlanta area, you NEED to order from Cuppalicious

No, no one’s telling me to say this.  I don’t get anything free for saying this.  They’re just that good.  They’re some of the best cupcakes I’ve ever had.  And I’m super picky when it comes to cupcakes.  They need to be perfectly moist and crazy flavorful to get my vote!

But it wasn’t just the food that was enjoyable at this shower.  It was also the company.

I’m very thankful for the friendships I’ve formed through Passion City Church!

Oh, and I couldn’t leave without doing the cliché pregnant lady-pose:

Good times. Smile

And now, time for another pregnancy update!

18 weeks

OK, folks.  I think it’s official.  I’m pregnant.  There’s no denying it at this point.  Baby M. has decided to make his or her presence clearly known this week!

Symptoms this week:

- More headaches.  Not every day, but they still like to make their appearance from time to time.

- I woke up with a horrible leg cramp in the middle of the night last week.  My calf muscle was sore for the whole following day.  Yikes!

Weight gained:

- 7 pounds total.  And I’m pretty sure 6.5 of those pounds are in my midsection, while the other .5 is probably in my chest. Smile with tongue out

- I wouldn’t say I’ve had any cravings per se, but I did decide that it would be a good idea to dip anything and everything into the leftover ranch dip this weekend.  Vegetables, chips, honey mustard pretzels, my finger, a dish rag … you know, whatever.

Fun events:

- The fact that I’m finally showing is fun.  I’ve had lots of people commenting on my belly or wanting to touch it this week.  If I’m going to be completely transparent with you guys, I’m still dealing with a bit of insecurity, as my body is changing.  But overall, I’m just excited that my baby is obviously growing like he or she is supposed to be growing!

Question for ya …

What did you do this weekend?

What are some foods that you usually like to eat at wedding/baby showers? (I like getting new ideas!)

Favorite baby shower game?

Which cupcake would you have gone for: white chocolate raspberry or carrot cake?

(Final note: The cupcake pictures are courtesy of my friend, Alanna.  She has a much better camera than I do!! Winking smile  Thanks, girl!)

You are looking just so cute! So wish u were closer to enjoy you more! As far as the leg cramps- or Charlie horses as I called them- I used to flex my up (maybe if was down? Try both) and it worked so it would go away. Jeremy says they are usually from a lack of potassium, so I would try to have a banana before bed which would usually help. They really stink so I know how u feel!

    • notsodomesticated

Good tip about the potassium, my friend! Thank you!!

I couldn’t agree more with you about cupcakes… I’m super picky about them too. The ones at the shower were adorable!

You are the cutest! I laughed out loud when you said 6.5 lbs has most likely gone to your midsection and .5 has gone to your chest… definitely here too! Although I’m thinking more like 2 lbs has gone to my chest. Lol. Just kidding. I can relate about the feelings of insecurity as our bodies change, but as Cody always reassures me, the gaining weight and our changing bodies is a GOOD thing. If those things weren’t happening, we wouldn’t have a healthy baby in the end. I promise you look AMAZING! xoxo

Aww thank you, Ashley. I know it’s a good thing, I just feel a little guilty because I’m probably eating more burgers and fries than I should be eating haha. But beating myself up isn’t going to help matters any!

Yes, ma’am. You are definitely starting to show now…and you are absolutely beautiful! I think your insecure feelings come with the territory, and I think they are perfectly normal. I got some good advice from a friend of mine a while back who told me if I started to feel super overwhelmed with the feelings about my body changing to stop looking at the scale. Watching that number rise higher and higher can be traumatizing and scary. So, I’m giving the same advice to you! If you start to worry/stress about it, stop looking at the numbers and just have your Dr. tell you if you are on track/off track with your weight, and have them make suggestions as to any changes in diet you should make. Then that way you really won’t know how much you’ve grown, and you can turn your stress into choosing the color palette for the nursery ;) Also, I’m super curious about the fondant on those cupcakes. Did y’all take it off before you ate them? Oh, and I’d definitely go for the carrot cake. Especially this time of year :)

You are just so sweet Amber. Thank you for taking the time to write that comment. You may be right … I may need to stop looking at the scale. But I actually don’t think it’s the number on the scale that’s freaking me out, as much as what I see in the mirror haha. But I know that this weight is a good thing .. I just need to stop being hard on myself!

Your baby bump is so cute!! You look beautiful…isn’t it such an amazing blessing that you are carrying and nourishing another human being?!?

Those cupcakes are SO cute, I love the decorations! I don’t like a lot of frosting on my cupcakes, it’s more important to me that the cake be really delicious…white chocolate raspberry would be my choice, for sure! At my baby shower, my sister-in-law ordered a bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes…they are the most amazingly moist and delicious cakes!
